Why Regional Bed Sizes Matter for Hotel Procurement
Ordering the wrong bed frame dimensions is one of the most expensive mistakes in hospitality procurement.
US Hotel Standards
Twin XL (39×80), Full (54×75), Queen (60×80), King (76×80). For extended-stay and upscale properties, Eastern King is the default.
EU Hotel Standards
Metric: Single (90×200 cm), Double (140×200 cm), King (160×200 cm), Super King (180×200 cm).
OEM Specification Checklist

Confirm the Mattress First, Then Engineer the Bed Frame
Regional bed-size names are not a complete specification. A “king,” “queen,” or “double” can vary by market and by mattress supplier. For hotel projects, begin with the final mattress width, length, height, and tolerance, then confirm the internal frame clearance, headboard position, side access, and finished bed footprint.
| Planning item | Why it should be documented |
|---|---|
| Mattress dimensions and tolerance | Prevents a frame that is too tight, too loose, or inconsistent across rooms. |
| Overall footprint | Protects guest circulation, bedside-table placement, and housekeeping access. |
| Headboard and wall fixing | Clarifies installation method, wall conditions, and transport break-down. |
| Base and support system | Defines support spacing, ventilation, noise control, and serviceability. |
| Packaging and access route | Ensures components can pass through lifts, corridors, and guestroom doors. |
Design for Installation and Maintenance
For a multi-room property, the bed frame should be easy to install consistently and practical to maintain. Confirm whether headboards are wall-mounted or frame-mounted, where adjustment points sit, how the base is leveled, and whether staff can replace components without dismantling adjacent furniture. If upholstery is used, specify seam direction, fabric code, cleaning requirements, and corner protection.
Use a Controlled Room Mock-Up
A room mock-up is the best place to verify clearances, proportions, lighting interaction, mattress fit, and housekeeping routes. Photograph the approved setup and attach the key dimensions to the order file. Any later size or material change should be checked against the same approved room standard.
