When a hotel opening is phased, furniture may be produced before every room is ready. The storage and delivery plan becomes part of procurement control: goods must remain identifiable, protected and available in the order the site can install them.
Build the delivery sequence from the site plan
Group furniture by building, floor, room type or public area. Confirm which areas are ready, the access route, lift restrictions, receiving hours, temporary storage and installation responsibility. A production completion date is not the same as a site delivery date.
Use labels that survive the handover
Carton labels should connect the item code, room or area, quantity, package number, finish or fabric reference and handling direction. The same identifiers should appear on the packing list, inspection record and installation schedule.
Protect furniture during storage
Define stacking limits, moisture protection, ventilation, floor clearance, corner protection and separation of finished surfaces. Upholstered goods should be kept away from contamination and pressure that can mark or distort the fabric. Storage instructions should reflect the actual packaging and product construction.
Release by batch, not only by calendar
Before a batch moves to the site, reconcile the item list, inspection status, corrective actions, packing condition and documentation. If one item is held for correction, identify the exception and decide whether the room can be released with a temporary plan.
Site receiving checklist
- Count cartons against the packing list
- Photograph visible damage before unpacking
- Confirm room and item labels
- Keep hardware and accessory packs with the item
- Record shortages, damage and open snags
- Protect finished furniture during installation
